Testing, I have just begun testing

I didn't realize that there is a "firm standard" for some things I ran across on the test. I want to do well if I test with a firm.
I only tested with one agency so far. I came across a red herring that I was not sure about. I created the text box and inverted the text..is there a certain procedure you should follow when doing this?
If I wanted to insert text outside of the footer should I use a paragraph indent with a negative #?
I appreciate any and all help you can give me in my getting started.

the red text on the left side of a prospectus is usually done as you say, creating a text box, inserting the text in text box in red (the text has to be formated sideways point up). I think there may have been some kind of stupid sheat from Tiger on how to do this, but I can't remember. as far as I know, the only place that has formating a propsectus as a test for law firm work is Tiger and I think the client is Davis Polk. Davis Polk is the only law firm I know of that has formating a ***king prospectus as a test.
Davis Polk is also the only law firm I know of with a Graphics Center. So, it is probably these GRAPHICS people who are insisting on this stuff that no other law firm in the city would allow..
When I took Tiger's test they insisted that the only acceptable way to create cascading text was to insert a fahking right triangle on the left of the text and a left triangle on the right side of the text. If you did this at any other law firm anywhere else in NYC, you would be kicked out and never allowed back ever.
So, with respect to your question on formating text, if it was Tiger and Davis Polk THEIR way may be inserting a fahking graphic in the text to achieve the indentation.
In the old days almost no one allowed the inserting of embedded objects becasuse everyone knew that it would crash Word and Windows. But now there are firms that insist that that is the only right way to do things. I was taking a test at Morgan Stanley and the instructions said to modify an Excel Chart that had been embedded as an object. When I did click on the object, the system crashed. The instructor then told everyone else that they should have Excel already open to edit an object.
With the Clients, you just have to accept their aholiness because it is their money. But when a temp agency has some ahole test it is probably to weed out certain people. Any temp agency sending temps to Davis Polk is probably training them on how to past the test, and I would seriously doubt that any of them (other than Tiger) are expecting temps off the street to know how Davis Polk wants things done.

I was going to test with Tiger as well.
One agency told me to create a cascading paragraph was to use an autoshape..is there another way? I never worked on documents so this is all very new to me.
I am set to test with Tiger..any input you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

A while back I was interviewing as a "Trainer" before I realized I didn't have the proper word processing skills after taking a test at Latham & Watkins..this is the test that was to reformat a prospectus and included the cascading paragraph. I totally messed up that test and I asked Tiger how to do it and she told me to use the autoshape, and rotate it, and then hide the lines. I was supposed to be registered with Tiger but the person I was dealing with left and they didn't tell me where she went or why. I recently contacted them again and they told me that I need to test with them. I think after what you told me I may be just wasting my time with Tiger.

P.S. They sent me on an interview without having me take the test ..so maybe that's why she was fired. Who knows? I have since learned what is the "norm".

Jovan (Donna) and Priorty (Jackie), I believe, are both at Latham.
I have worked at Lathm for years (literally, about 4 years) on and off. And while I haven't been there in the last month, I didn't see anyone there putting graphics in word documents. And the secretaries I know who work at Latham would freak out of they saw fahking triangle autoshapes in a fhaking word document.
Davis Polk I can see doing this kind of stupid sheat, but not Latham, not unless there have been some radical changes at Latham since I was there last.
The simply way to do cascading test is with a manual line break, this is something that everyone (i.e. all the secretaries and lawyers) would understand and make edits to. The flow of text would not be automatic like with the shapes but anyone would be able to edit the document.
But again, if the Client says do it with autoshapes then do it that way. But if this is coming from Tiger, that's a different story.
The person at Tiger who told me this has to be done this way, then tried to show me how to do it, but she couldn't. She finally gave up and just said it had to be done with autoshpes but SHE couldn't do it. What a fahking joke, to expect people off the street to know some particular client's anal rules is just fahking uncalled for.
Tiger has been around a long time and back in the day Tiger WAS the most OPEN of the little CARTEL of temp agencies that were sending temps to high end IBanks and Law Firms. But the person I saw last at Tiger testing temps wasn't doing Tiger any favors. (And that receptions at Tiger was x-ed out of Proskauer Rose's WP Center as a receptionist when Pitney Bowes took over Proskauer's Center, her attitude didn't do her any good at Proskauer Rose. I don't think it ever occurred to her that Proskauer didn't like her)

Then I may have the firms mixed up..I was sure that it was Latham.
I used the Autoshape.
If you use a manual line break..where does it break? What are the indents..as I said that this is all new to me.

I'm sorry I should have been clearer..I meant if you don't use autoshapes and you use manual line breaking..then how is it done? I just would like to know for future reference. I'm sorry for all of the questions ..you have been very helpful.

When I do it that way it only slopes on the right..how do you get the left to slope as well?
Example:
text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text (manual line break) text text text text text text text (manual line break) text text text text text text (manual line break) text text text text text (manual line break) text text text text (manual line break) text text text (manual line break) text text (manual line break) text
