According to one website, Ian is from Louisiana.
I am relatively sure that when someone in Louisiana sees someone who looks like Ian, their first thought is probably "What Race Is He?". Only in Louisiana would anyone wonder if Ian could be Black, but there are people (many many people) who look just like Ian in Louisiana who identify as Black.
I went to an all Black high school and if you look at my high school year book you would think that the my high school was integrated. I can recall a brother and sister at my high school; the brother looked basically like a "light skinned" Black Guy and the Sister looked White and had Blond Hair.
The majority of the people I knew as BLACK as a kid and who I grew up with, would be considered White or Hispanic in NYC.
once a group of us from my high school went to Baton Rouge as part of a summer "Boy's State program. One of my friends who had always been "BLACK" to us decided that, for the summer, he would be "WHITE".
