We Can't Have That
Recently, I ran into a former temp ("JEFF") who said that he registered with Custom and was scheduled to go in several times for some kind of training. Jeff says that he called in and said that he would be a little late for one of the UNPAID training sessions.
Jeff gets into Custom for his training late, tells the reception person that he is ready. The Reception person looks up, frowns and goes into the back. A temp counselor comes out from the back and tells Jeff: "You're late for the training and WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!"
Jeff is employed as a full time employee at a law firm and has no need or desire to temp.
This shows you what is so great about NYC: (a) Custom is only one of more than 1,000 temp agencies in NYC; (b) I don't know of very many CLIENTS in NYC where Custom is the only temp agency sending temps to that Client; (c) temping is only one of many ways to make money, you can be an employee or start your own company; and (d) if all else fails, go to the library and XEROX yourself some copies of SEC V FREEMAN.
